He has judged the Golden Horse Awards in Taipei and the Chinese Visual Festival, among other Chinese-language competitions. His books include China on Screen: Cinema and Nation, Chinese Films in Focus: 25 New Takes and Chinese Film Festivals: Sites of Translation.
